Girl power prevails

Congratulations, Rachel Alexandra and Calvin Borel.

I was telling a co-worker here at the paper during the race that I didn't like how she was traveling, and Calvin said after the race that she didn't seem to like the surface. But she was best of all.

Mine That Bird proved himself by this time having a bad trip and still getting onto the board. (Edit: Up for second, in fact. I wasn't quite sure. Had to go wide and was game to the end.)
